My wife has a hypoactive thyroid and wants to diet!

My wife has a hypoactive thyroid and wants to diet!

After the birth of our second child, my wife was diagnosed with a hypoactive thyroid. Her thyroid has been regulated with synthroid for about 4 years now, but losing wait is a problem.

She has never been really serious about a strict diet, but she recently had her breasts enlarged and she wants her old shape back. She is currently 5'9" about 165 lbs. Not fat, but a little soft in the tummy and thigh area. She is not really picky about what she could eat, so she has an open mind to any diet that may show results. Most supplements are out of the question (thyroid).

She is planning to get back in to the gym 2 times a week (minimum) with 30 minutes cardio and 1 1/2 hours of light weight training. I recommended a diet of 1200 calories with low carb intake, but I am not positive if this is for her.

Can anybody give me some advice or possibly a sample diet (by day) that may work? She is 28 years old.

Faye if you read this - please help. I respect your opinion.

I just posted on your other thread asking what her current diet looked like. But, what you'll need to do is to get her eating 6 small meals a day.
She should get her protein sources from chicken, fish, lean cuts of beef, eggs and egg whites, and whey protein. If she is going to eat dairy, cottage cheese, yogurt and skim milk are also good additions.
Have her get her complex carbs from clean sources such as oats, sweet potatoes and rice. Fat sources should come from olive oil, natty peanut butter, nuts and seeds and Udo's Oil or flax oil.
Obviously she should avoid sugars and processed foods.
She should be including some greens in their as well.
She should be trying to drink at least 12 glasses of water per day. If she tends to retain water, then she needs to drink more than that.

I agree with Fyre. I think I've also posted in the other thread, I'll go check.

12oo cals is not enough for a 165lbs woman IMO> I think 1600 would be more efficient considering she is not weight lifting a whole lot (or the cals might be higher). I think 100 - 120g (complex) carbs are a good idea, but no too low because she will have no energy.

what do the diet gurus think? 1600 cals?? and how many carbs

bump for answer
