  Microdermabrasion for acne scars?

 Microdermabrasion for acne scars?

Hey ladies! I was wondering if anyone had experience with microdermabrasion? I have residual old scars from acne on my shoulders, and although my friends say they aren't noticeable, I would like to get them removed for the hot weather so I can wear short sleeves!! I have always broken out a little on my shoulders and back from constantly being in the gym and being sweaty (and trust me, winstrol doesn't help the skin either lol). I have found ways to keep the breakouts to a minimum, and I wear Nivea shimmer lotion to disguise the scars, but I still feel self-concious about them. Please share your experiences and suggestions! I don't want to pay the hefty price if microderm doesn't work; are there any other products that will help? Thanks in advance!

Hey girl, Madine had this done twice I think along her jawline for the same thing. She did say she noticed a difference in appearance and texture, but the real results come from between 6-8 treatments, and @ $100 a pop, that can get expensive. But if its worth it to you, then it prolly is worth it to pay that much.

sweet jesus I can't afford THAT much lol... I have been reading about Mederma the scar-healing gel. I wonder if it would work in this case... Is it available thru prescription only? Has anyone used it before?

Hey sweetie!
Yes, I had three treatments of microderm; it did help a little with texture, but the marks are still there and it was $125 a pop!! It's pricey, but if you can afford it, it works.
I have the Mederma, you can get it at any drugstore. It is a little expensive, and it says that you will have to use it for at least 4-5 months to see results. I have the patience of a five year old, so I didn't stick to it, so I can't really say that it does or does not work?
My girlfriend is an esthtitician(sp?), and she says the best way to get rid of the marks is to get a good exfoliant(St. Ives Apricot is a good, cheap one), and try to exfoliate every third day. If this aggravates your skin, try dropping down to once a week. I have oily skin, so I can handle the third day treatment, just get to know your skin's tolerance. Follow up with an antibiotic cleanser, and a good moisturizer. If you keep this regimen up, it will cut down on the appearance.

I am an esthetician who does this and other treatments.
Micorderm results vary because there are different machines. Best bet is go to a dermatologist and maybe get them to write it up so your insurance covers it. They have the strongest machines usually....OR something that is sometimes more effective and less costly would be (glycolic acid body wash daily and) chemical peels on that area. You might get rid of that scarring with one or two of those! Again, dermatologist got the goods but do what you can afford. Either way~ you should be careful gettin sun on the area once you treat it.
