On my last post, I mentioned that my grip was lacking and that I couldn't handle the weight. I've now improved but I still tend to get loose grips when I get heavy on the deadlift.
I was wondering, when I get to a weight where my hands can't handle it but my back can, should I strap up to keep working my back, or just chill out, do lighter weights without straps and hope that my grip catches up?
Right now I'm in the 225-245 range of weight without straps but at the same time that's when my hands start to give out. I know my back can handle more but my hands just don't allow it without straps. |

this is a debatable issue. i have heard it go both ways. i used straps when i needed to use them and let my deads get as heacy as i could lift. i would go without them until i had to use straps and then use straps. i would also work on grip.

Quote: Start holding heavy dumbells in your hands till they give out, should help with the grip Do 4 sets at least | I've started doing just that, and it takes time, but it works for sure... I've relied on straps way too much on just about all my back exercises (rows, pulldowns, etc.) and my grip strength has suffered.

Don't sacrifice back strength and growth due to a weak grip. Strap up on the heavy sets, but work on grip at the end of every back workout.

static db holds work---but for me what helps lots is reverse grip curls. And of course pulling deads without straps helps---
I use a over under grip w\chalk.
But i was battling some tendonitis issues these past few months and coulndt train my forearms so I pulled double overhand with straps.
Aint nuttin wrong w\using straps if you dont plan on competing in powerlifting.
But my preferance will always be over under w\chalk --and that is what i am using now. I can hold anything over 405lbs raw w\chalk no problme.
