i was told it doesnt make a differencce, its actually the most benneficial to drink before a workout and drink water during a workout

it would be benificial in an anti catabolic way. Your amino pool would remain high and your body would burn that before tapping into your muscle mass.

If you worrie about getting catabolic then you should seriously shorten the time u spend in the gym! (actually lifting, not talking that is) Shouldn´t be over 1 hour. Take 1 before with dextro and the same after ( a whey protein).

Start drinking your protein shake together with dextrose towards the end of your wo, after 40/50 mins.
