 mer-curious tuna?

how much mercury is there really in a can of tuna? enough to really hinder you? can cooking it get rid of any of it? ..and finally, how does mercury affect you...besides death of excessive amounts? ive read its ok to eat it twice a week, but im exceeding that, and am not sure if im damaging my body. thanks!

Mercury can cause insanity I think.

I remember reading that mercury used to be utilized during hat production, hence the term, "Mad as a hatter."

i was wondering about that mercury thing too....i eat like 4-5 cans a week but i've been doing it for years and i haven't had any problems. i heard that the albacore has more mercury in it than the light.

From what I've heard and read, it's Albacore tuna that has the highest concentration of mercury. I ususally eat about 4-5 cans in a seven day period but I buy Chunk light in water. probably doesn't taste as good as Albacore but it's significantly lower in merc. I don't know if 4-5 cans is still too much but I drink alot of water too so maybe that helps flush some of the toxins out. just my .02
