in the middle of the night for a protein shake or another meal?
Personally I set my alarm 4 hours from the time I lay down for bed and when that goes off, I down a shake while half asleep. Its already pre-made and sitting in my mini-fridge which is right beside my bed. I guess Im just wondering if anyone else does this because after 2 years of doing this every night, its getting a little tired. My theory has always been that getting in 50-60 grams of carb-free protein is golden right in the middle of a sleep for muscle growth. And I always felt it great for cutting as well because it helped keep your metabolism sky high. If I quit doing that then I just picture my muscles starving for protein during the night and the growing process taking a step backwards. Just want to hear some thoughts on this. Also, this middle of the night shake is my 6th and last meal of the day and if I did stop taking it, I would just squeeze my meals during the day a little tighter to fit the shake in somewhere. Thats not a problem at all. I guess its more a psychological thing. |

I think my body needs uninterrupted sleep more than it needs a protein shake in the middle of the night. There is no way I could get up and drink something in the middle of the night, I barely get enough sleep as it is.
The theory is interesting for those that can handle it.

I wake up pretty much every night around 3:00am and go eat something. It's usually just one scoop of protein in water or if i don't feel like a shake, I always have hard boiled eggs in the fridge that I can munch on. I think my body is so programmed to eat every 3 hours, that it wakes me up and says it's feeding time. I get up again at 6:00/6:30 every morning, like clockwork cuz it's time to eat again!

Once I'm asleep there isn't much chance of me getting up in the middle of the night. I don't get enough sleep during the week so I end up sleeping through the night. On the weekends I will get up and let the dogs out have somthing to eat then go back to sleep but that is the rare occasion that I can sleep 8-9 hours at one time.
