Front squats are meant to target quads a bit, to get better at them you must do them. So, its not the same as a back squat.

front squats will hit the core MUCH harder
but they will not hit the quads any different then reg squats assuming you use the same stance and hit the same depth for both

More emphasis is put on the thighs with front squats. You can feel the difference. BB is right. The core is worked alot moretoo which is great and feels great. Its a fantastic exercise and is as important as incline bench is for chest. It gives a great outside sweep in the quads.
