Does the filter on a 500mL Nalgene bottle top filter somehow stronger than then filter on a 150mL Nalgene bottle top filter? If the filters are the same, then I just assume buy the cheaper 150mL unit and refill it. Actually, come to think of it, I probably won't need to do more than 200mL in a single batch. If I can use a single 150mL filter unit, then that is much cheaper than the 500mL unit. But if I have to use two 150mL units, then I'm better off using the 500mL unit.
And can the disposable filter unit receivers be reused if I clean them out with isopropyl alcohol?
Thank You. |

What are you asking? Should you buy a 150ml if you are only gonna do 150ml? If so then YES. If you aer asking if you can filter more than 150ml through one, then NO... technically. You prolly could, but not recommended much more than that extra 50ml.
Please clarify

My primary question was "is the filter on the 150mL unit identical to the 500mL unit." If they were, then that would indicate that the only difference between the two units was the volume capacity but not the filtering capacity. You have now indicated that in fact, the filters are somehow different and thus, the filtering capacity of each is different.
I'll describe the exact situation.
I'll likely get 100g of testosterone enanthate and perhaps make it at 500mg/mL, yielding 200mL.
It also appears that these things are typically sold in 12 packs. I might be making other compounds, such as Tren ace and Tren enan, in smaller batches.
Trying to figure out if I'm better off buying a 12pk of 150mL or 500mL filter units.
Looks like a 12 pk of 150mL units costs $69.97 and a 12 pk of 500mL units costs $132.26: https://www1.fishersci.com/Coupon?gid=105809&cid=1328
I'm guessing that I'm better off buying the 150mL units and then using 2 of them if necessary. Two of the 150mL units is just a little more expensive than 1 of the 500mL units.
PS Thank You.

RJH8541 told me what I really wanted to know already. The filters in 500mL and 150mL Nalgenes are different. I wonder what they do to the filter in the 500mL unit to make it last longer, but it doesn't really matter. The 150mL unit isn't proper to filter 500mL.

mranak, a 150ml may infact filter much more than 150ml of solution. Depends on concentration, purity, etc. The main concern is flowrate, and once the filter clogs such that you dont get the specified flow rate, well then thats that. Doesnt mean the next 100ml are somehow not filtered and are dirty. Just means itl be slower.
